Dear Ms. Allan:
With pleasure, I am writing to inform you that your poem, “Angel in Flight,” has been awarded the Statewide Poetry Prize in the amount of $100, and selected for publication in the Spring 1993 edition of The Lyricist.
We had a record number of submissions this year, and our judges were faced with the extremely difficult task of choosing the best literary works for publication as well as awards. The judges’ selections indicate that their task was not undertaken lightly – the poetry and prose pieces selected for publication in this year’s Lyricist represent the excellent creative abilities and serious craftsmanship of our contributors.
I will be sending you in the near future a check on behalf of The Lyricist Statewide Prize, your originals, and a copy of the 1993 edition of our publication. In Spring of 1994, Tara was asked and accepted the challenge of judging the Student Poetry Contest for The Lyricist. The following year, she was one of the judges for the Statewide Poetry Competition.
